It is with incredible sadness that we have to let you know that Geoff Piggott passed away on Tuesday (12th October) aged 93.
Geoff joined the staff as Head of Geography in 1954, remaining at the school until his retirement in 1987, completing 33 years service.
He served under five headmasters: Ross Cubbon, Norman Bronner, John Bowles, Brian Hooton and the Rev Jon Francis and covered five generations of pupils.
During his career he saw the school grow from around 300 boys to over 1,000 and the number of teaching staff increase fivefold. Geoff was a member of Welles House, led the school Scout group with his life long friend and fellow teacher John Hodgson and was an officer in the Sandbach School Combined Cadet Force.
Geoff continued his long association with the school and with the Old Sandbachians throughout his life.
A full obituary will follow soon.
In the meantime, we are looking for any memories, photos or tributes that we could use for a forthcoming tribute page to Geoff. Please send us anything you would like to be considered for inclusion to: Geoff.Tribute@oldsandbachians.co.uk
